Building Site Manager


Building sites often involve large amounts of people working on different tasks of different skill levels. Depending on the project, sites can have 100 people working at one time. A Building Site Manager is a person designated to provide support and co-ordination to the overall project.

A site manger needs to understand the architecture industry and concepts, building materials, building costs, contracts and regulations. Site managers also need good people skills as they are coordinating a range of people with a range of specialised skills. Profession such as Builders, Plumbers, Architects, and Electricians and materials such as concrete, timber, steel and insulation; as well as detailed contracts, industry and governmental regulations associated with all of these, make a site manager’s job highly skilled.

As a result the average salary of someone in this profession is in excess of $1000 per week or $52K per annum. To be eligible for this kind of job, a university degree and/or diploma, in conjunction with significant industry experience is almost always essential. This is simply because of the amount of industry knowledge that is required in order for a building manager to perform their duties competently.

The Building Site Manager will usually report to the Construction Manager and will have support on site such as the Foreman and Site Officers.
